Sasha Soreff
Modern/Contemporary
As Creative Director of Sasha Soreff Dance Theater (SSDT), Sasha has been creating and performing multigenerational dance theater work since 2002. Her work has been presented at venues throughout New York and New England. In 2009, SSDT presented “The Other Shoe” at The Ailey Citigroup Theater, the sequel to “The Dancer Who Wore Sneakers and Other Tales,” which premiered at the same venue in 2005. Her work has been seen at HERE, DUMBO Dance Festival, Long Island University, PS 122, Cunningham Studio Theater, the 92nd Street Y, Prospect Hill Senior Services Center, Chester College, Portland Dances, WNET and most recently, Dixon Place, the DUMBO Dance Festival, Clarkson University, St. Lawrence NYSARC, North Shore LIJ Health System, the Harlem Children Society, Governors Island, One Arm Red, and University Settlement with the “Shoelace Project.” Her new work, “Here I am” will premiere at University Settlement in New York City in May 2013.
Sasha has served on the faculty of Dance New Amsterdam in New York City since 1999, teaching modern dance, anatomy and student performance workshops. She teaches contemporary jazz at the 92nd Street Y. As a founding company member, she danced with Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends from 1998-2004 and has worked with a range of contemporary choreographers including Laurie DeVito, Kevin Wynn, Rachel Thorne Germond, Sean Curran and Holly Twining. She has studied acting in Meisner-inspired classes taught by Fred Kareman and Anthony Stropoli. Sasha graduated from high school at North Carolina School of the Arts with a concentration in modern dance and received a BA from Barnard College. Hailing from Portland, Maine, her dance career was launched when she performed as a five year old in “Feeding the Ducks” at a local senior center.
