Always wanted to dance?
Want to get back into the studio now that you're an adult?
Feeling a little intimidated/overwhelmed about it?
Don't worry! We're here for you!
Introducing TIPDI's "Warm Welcome" Dance Weekend.
The fun, stress-free, multi-dance weekend for adult beginners only.
For the last five years at TIPDI, we've run awesome dance camps for adults of multiple skill levels.
Our beginner classes were always the most popular - because we actually start at the beginning!
Strangely, a lot of absolute beginner and beginner classes in NYC assume you already have dance training.
What??!! That doesn't make any sense!

Strangely, a lot of absolute beginner and beginner classes in NYC assume you already have dance training.
What??!! That doesn't make any sense!
This year, by popular demand, we're focusing on adult beginners - just like you!
And we don't expect you to know anything!
And we don't expect you to know anything!
At "Warm Welcome", you'll explore 6 different dance styles (3 classical dance + 3 partner dance) over the course of 2 days.
We deliberately cap enrollment and we don't allow "drop-in" participants. We start the weekend off on Friday night with our "Kick Off" party, so you can get to know the folks you'll be dancing with for the rest of the weekend in a chill environment. It's also a great time to ask us any last minute questions you might have about the weekend. We love fostering a communal, "camp"-like environment at all of our dance weekends. That way, everyone participating can feel comfortable stumbling around, figuring it all out, with the same small group of dancers all weekend long.
We don't expect you to know anything. Really. We will explain everything - which hand to put on the bar; which way to stand; how to count in; how to go across the floor; how to have the correct embrace; social dance floor etiquette. Everything from the beginning - so that you can go out into the world after "Warm Welcome", a more confident dance enthusiast, ready to tackle a dance class anywhere.

What to Bring/Wear
CLOTHES:
FOOTWEAR:
Any of the options listed below are fine. We do not expect you to run out and buy shoes for the weekend.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Sweatpants, yoga pants, non-baggy shorts, stretch pants, t-shirts, comfortable tank tops, all work just fine.
- If you have long hair, bring something to tie it back with, such as a scrunchy or hairband.
- Make-up is unnecessary. (You'll most likely sweat it off halfway into the first class anyway.)
- Perfume is unnecessary. (See "makeup". Hee.)
- Long story short, dress for comfort, not fashion.
FOOTWEAR:
Any of the options listed below are fine. We do not expect you to run out and buy shoes for the weekend.
- Modern class: Barefoot or socks.
- Ballet class: Socks, Peds, or ballet shoes if you have them already. Peds are the little nylon socks that you can buy in a pack of six at Duane Reade or CVS for wearing inside dress shoes. For those of you with ballet shoes already, you will only need your technique shoes for the weekend.
- Afro-Haitian class: Barefoot or socks.
- Tango class: Socks, or Jazz or Ballet technique shoes if you already have them.
- Forró class: Socks, or Jazz or Ballet technique shoes if you already have them.
- West Coast Swing class: Socks, or Jazz or Ballet technique shoes if you already have them.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Water. There is a lounge area at RWS Studios with bottled water and water fountains, as well. However, bringing your own refillable bottle is helpful.
- Snacks. You have 10-minute breaks between each class and one 50-minute break on Saturday and Sunday. While the long break is enough time to run out and grab something, it's better to have something handy, so you can actually use some of your break to take a break.
- Extra shirts and socks. You will most likely want to change at some point. You'll be working hard.
- Deodorant. While not necessary for rocking a dance class, it is appreciated. (Breath mints or toothbrush/toothpaste are good, too.)
- A smile and your willingness to have fun!
Your Teachers for the Weekend!
