WHAT'S WEST COAST SWING?
West Coast Swing (WCS) is a lead-follow partner dance form that combines slow Lindy Hop, Salsa, Hip Hop, and booty-shakin', danced to Pop, Rock, R&B, and Hip Hop! It's hugely popular on the West Coast and in Europe and South America. Come get in on the fun as it sweeps the East Coast!
WHAT WE'LL DO IN CLASS
A. We'll learn the 5 Fundamental Skills that make WCS easy.
B. We'll snap these 5 building blocks together and see how they instantly let us create all the Basic moves and about 90% of the Advanced moves in WCS! And we'll dance.
C. At the end of Ken & Paula's Magical WCS Crash Course, you'll be genuinely good at dancing with higher level WCS dancers.
D. The course is non-gender biased. Dance whatever role(s) you like. We'll probably all try both roles at some point, as part of learning faster and better.

DETAILS
PREREQUISITE: Ability to count to 6. Ability to count to 8 helpful but not required. No partner or prior dance experience needed.
WHEN: Saturday, October 24, 2:00-5:00 pm. Arrive a little early. Bring water, maybe a snack. We'll take a couple breaks.
WHERE: IATI - 64 E. 4th St., 2nd Fl. (betw 2nd Ave & 3rd Ave/Bowery), New York, New York 10003.
INSTRUCTORS: Paula Wilson & Ken Kreshtool "The best instructor I've ever had in ANYTHING!"—Harvard University students, 6 years in a row.
CLOTHING: Wear anything that is comfortable. Jeans and t-shirts are fine. Bring an extra shirt.
SHOES: Any clean footwear that lets you spin comfortably is fine — dance shoes, dance sneakers, Toms, even socks. Clean suede soles are best. Grippy rubber soles are bad — your knees will die. Pulling thin socks/footies over your shoes / sneakers works great! NO SPIKES OR HIGH HEELS, PLEASE! Salsa heels and Tango heels do NOT work well for WCS. NOTE: It's good to change into your clean dance footwear after arriving, to preserve the floor. If it rains, definitely change into clean, dry footwear after arriving. Thanks.
WHAT ELSE TO BRING: (a) Water. Maybe a snack. (b) An extra shirt, preferably two extras. (c) Carry your dance footwear and change into it/them after you arrive. (d) Gum. Toothbrush. Deodorant. Please. (d) All your friends. (e) A smile! (You don't have to wear it, but you should have one handy just in case the need arises.)
