Sasha Soreff

Contemporary

Sasha Soreff has been with TIPDI since our very first event over a decade ago and is one of our most popular instructors. She is beloved by TIPDI participants for her fun, freeing, expansive movement and teaching style. Her immensely popular modern dance classes at Dance New Amsterdam in New York City were known for being incredibly diverse with regards to ages, body types, and race, and they were the classes everyone attended when they needed joy.

For three decades, Sasha has been supporting individuals of all ages, capacities, and comfort levels to find ease of movement, soulful self-expression and joy in dancing.  Sasha is on faculty at Gibney in New York City and has been honored to teach modern at The International Partner Dance Intensive since its inception in 2013.
As Artistic Director of Sasha Soreff Dance Theater, Sasha has created and shared multigenerational, participatory work on stage and in community settings for more than twenty years.  She has created work for the Ailey/Fordham BFA students, the acclaimed intergenerational Roots&Branches Theater company, and the “I am Humanity” global flash mob.

Sasha is a teacher and coordinating team member for Radical Movement, a free Zoom movement space for “everybody and every body,” originally created by Sonya Renee Taylor in 2021.  She taught modern, Simonson Dance Technique and created Student Performance Workshops at Dance Space Center and Dance New Amsterdam in New York City from 1999 until those spaces closed in 2013, and she was guest faculty at NYU Langone's Initiative for Women with Disabilities.

A Maine native, she graduated from high school at North Carolina School of the Arts and received a BA from Barnard College.   Sasha is a certified Resonant Healing Practitioner, supporting people to come into their bodies and bring relief to their nervous systems.

Sasha is “the Dancer Who Wears Sneakers” - sneakers keep her dancing with a challenging foot condition.

If you’ve always wanted to try Contemporary/Modern, or have been away from dance for an extended period and want to return, classes with Sasha are magical.
